Before we talk about some Dessert Recipes, Did you know that the term “dessert” actually comes from the French word “desservir,” which means “to clear the table”? The English language first used this word in 1600 in a health manual called “Natural and artificial Directions for Health,” written by William Vaughan. It’s interesting how the meaning of a word can evolve. Let’s talk about some Dessert Recipes.

Gulab Modak Recipe

  • Grate khoya and mix it with sugar and elaichi powder to make a sweet mixture.
  • Take each roundel and stuff it with a pinch of gulkand.
  • Put each ball into a modak-shaped mold and press it to shape the modak.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining balls.
  • Take out the modaks from the molds.
  • Garnish the modaks with dry or fresh rose petals.
  • Serve the gulkand modaks as a dessert or a sweet treat.

Dodha Barfi Recipe

  • Chop the dry fruits and keep them in a bowl.
  • Lower the flame and let the milk simmer till it reduces to half its quantity and thickens.
  • Add glucose and ghee to the mixture and cook for 10-15 minutes until it leaves the sides.
  • Add water to the mixture and stir for two more minutes.
  • Grease a metal tray with ghee.
  • Spread the grainy mixture evenly on the tray with a spatula.
  • Top it with chopped dry fruits and let it cool in the fridge for 5-6 hours, covered with cling film.
  • When done, remove the tray and cut the mixture into desired shapes.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious sweet dish.

Sitaphal Basundi Recipe

  • Boil milk in a heavy-bottomed pot and let it simmer while stirring continuously to avoid sticking to the bottom.
  • Add sugar, whey protein powder, and cardamom powder to the boiled milk to prepare a thick mixture.
  • Cook the mixture for 15-20 minutes and remove it from the flame.
  • Add the custard apple pulp to the mixture and mix well to combine all ingredients.
  • Garnish the mixture with chopped peanuts.
  • Let it cool and serve chilled.

Fruit and Mint Custard Recipe

  • Take strawberries, apricots, and kiwis and chop them into small cubes.
  • Mix custard powder and sugar with a little milk in a small bowl to prepare the custard slurry.
  • Boil the remaining milk in a pot for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the custard slurry into the boiled milk and whisk it well.
  • Add chopped fruits, almonds, cashews, mint leaves, and vanilla essence to the custard mixture.
  • Let the custard cool down, then keep it in the fridge until chilled.
  • Once chilled, remove the custard from the fridge and garnish it with more chopped fruits, almonds, cashews, and mint leaves.
  • The fruit custard is now ready to be served.

Gulab Jamun Recipe

  1. Step 1 Prepare bread crumbs.
  2. Begin by roughly breaking the bread into pieces and adding them to a blender. Pulse a few times to create breadcrumbs. Transfer the breadcrumbs to a bowl.
  3. Step 2 Knead the dough.
  4. Next, add milk to the breadcrumbs and start kneading the mixture with your hands. At first, the mixture may seem crumbly, but continue kneading until it forms a dough.
  5. Step 3 Form and fry the balls
  6. Using the dough, form about ten evenly-sized balls. Heat oil in a pan and fry five balls until fdgolden brown. Remove the balls from the pan and fry the remaining ones.
  7. Step 4 Prepare the sugar syrup.
  8. Bring the mixture to a boil, add cardamom, and let it simmer until it thickens slightly. Turn off the heat and add the fried balls to the syrup. Cover the pot with a lid and let it sit for 2 hours.
  9. Step 5 Serve
  10. After 2 hours, the Gulab Jamuns will have doubled in size and soaked up the syrup. Serve the warm Gulab Jamuns and enjoy.

Snowball Cookies Recipe

  1. Step 1: Combine the ingredients
  2. Mix butter and sugar in a bowl until a creamy mixture forms. Add flour, cornflour, baking powder, and salt to the mixture and continue to fold until well combined.
  3. Step 2: Chill the dough
  4. Cover the dough and chill it in the fridge for 20 minutes to make it easier to work with.
  5. Step 3: Form the cookies
  6. Take the chilled dough out of the fridge and pinch out small pieces. Roll them into smooth balls between your palms and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  8. Preheat your oven to 170 degrees Celsius and bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes. Decorate them with powdered sugar or icing of your choice before serving.
